MANAGE

Section One: Title, objective, responsibilities

Title or working title of project (in the form of a question)
I have been commissioned to compose a two minute song for the end credits of a new film being
released next March. The film genre is crime so the song i compose cannot be "soppy" or slow
but a fast up beat song which will fit well with the genre and be a good ending to the film.

Project objectives (eg, what is the question you want to answer? What do you want to learn how to do?
What do you want to find out?):
My project objectives are to be able to compose the song and it be successful and go well with the genre of the film. I want to be able to develop my skills in research and find a lot of information so I have enough research to be able to make the song suit the film perfectly. To improve my skills as a song writer and make my name well known.

If it is a group project, what will your responsibilities be?
N/A

Section Two: Reasons for choosing this project
Reasons for choosing the project (eg, links to other subjects you are studying, personal interest, future plans, knowledge/skills you want to improve, why the topic is important): The reason for choosing my project is I have an interest in composing my own music and the project is interesting and fun. It will involve a lot of research but I enjoy that as it means I can make the best possible music compared to others music used for the end credits of a film.

Section Three: Activities and timescales

Activities to be carried out during the project (eg, research, analysis, writing, preparing for the presentation, etc):
Activities to carry out is research on other films in the same genre as the film mine is in too, so I can see what kind of music is normally used. I’ll have to actually compose a piece of music. Prepare and present my research, my finished item and be able to talk about what I did and why.

How long this will take:
Till Easter Half Term

Section Four: Resources

What resources will you need for your research, write up and presentation (eg, libraries, books, journals, equipment): Resources I will need are a computer to actually write up my progress and research on. I will need to talk to people to see what kind of music they like hearing at the end of them film. I will need equipment or a device to create or record a piece of music.

What your areas of research will cover?
I Will have to research in detail famous artists who created music for films and research what they take in to consideration. My research will also cover looking at different types of music and working out well what pitch and tones, tempo and so on go well with the genre crime.

Time Scale
It will take me atleast 8 weeks to conduct research, the research including what genre i should choose, what kind of music is in the genre. 8 weeks may seem quite alot for research but to break it down, the first two weeks will be watching  films within the genre i choose, then 3 weeks on analysing music used in the genre then the last week 3 weeks would be on deciding what kind of sound i want the final product too sound like.

i will now for the next 10 weeks compose the music. This broke down again, the first 3 weeks would be experimenting with different softwares to see what i can use and what i can very well. Once decided the remaining weeks would be stringing together different sounds to see what sounds good together and created a folder where all the sounds i want to use will be saved.

3 weeks i would take on making the song, trial and erroring different 2 minutes songs i make to see what i prefer, also i would go back and make sure the songs i make go with the genre.

4 weeks finishing off the song making sure it sounds good, also i would show it to people and ask them what they think of the product and if they can think of any way it could be improved.

1 week to improve the product if there are any comments.

1 week to create a a presentation and make sure all the work it together to show how i made the product and present it to the class.

Activity Log

November
During the first month of production i have focused on research of my product developing the idea. My idea being making song for the end credits of a crime film.

Research i have done so far done is looking in to different crime films on idmb and watching them to see what music they use and what effect it gives.

December
This month i carried on research i analysed the films and what kind of music is in the films and what effect they give and started to look on itunes on soundtracks for the films and analysed in depth the different sounds created and why they are effective and what the contribrute to the song.

January
I actually have started to make my song now, i tried using cubase but it was too time consuming so i decided to use a different software instead. Im experimenting with different sounds that could be in my song and if it it fits the genre of crime.

Ferbruary
I have nearly finished the end of my song, and are just editing a few things within the song, the song was origianlly 4 minutes but i decided to cut it down to just 2 minutes as it may get a bit boring to people that are listening as the song is a bit repetitive.

March
Everything came together the song it completed and ready to show i just need to finish off my blog and create a powerpoint this will be down by the end of the week.

Ideas For Extended Project

Whats going to make my project good:
-Planning
-Researching
-Developing
-Reveiwing

Whats skill i will develop:
-Research and Reveiw
-Planning
-Analysis
-Evaluation

My idea:
I have been comissioned to compose a two minute song for the end credits of a new film being
released next March. The film genre is crime so the song i compose can not be "soppy" or slow
but a fast up beat song which will fit well with the genre and be a good ending to the film.

Research will be a key part in producing the song, as i will need to look into other films in this
genre and see what kinds of music they have used for end credits. Also what kind of people are
usually used to produce and compose music for end credits of film or the music for the films.

Developing my ideas, i need to be able to do my research and put it in to practice, by this i
mean anaylise other music used in this genre, being crime, and start to be thinking about if the
i compose will be instrumental or if their will be someone singing.

I will make a few different snippets i could use for end credits and play them to maybe friends,
family and the local public to see what they think of if and ask them to fill in a servy.

To keep a record of my ideas and my progress i will keep my blog updated with research
servys i will create and also i will create a powerpoint where all my planning, research,
development, different ideas, peoples reveiws, my final piece and my evaluation of everything
during the time and also my personal opinion on my song and if i think its like compared to
songs in the same genre is mine, crime.

Evaluation Of Apps Presentation

WhizzApps' - Universal Street Spot
In our prestentation to the other members of the class, we decided to have less detail on slides and more of us speaking and explaining. I personally think if we would of just read it of the screen like other people did then the people listening would find it boring and wouldn't actually take in what we were saying. We explained in a lot of detail what our app was and what its functions were. I think we came first overall in the pitch and concept because we made the audience understand what our idea was and when they did answer questions we answered them clearly and in alot of detail. As well as this i believe people understood our pitch and liked it because it was an exciting idea and had a lot of potential. However even though i did talk about research to the class i don't think i did do enough research on other apps similair to ours. It was not very formal as we didnt stand up. But we did cover everything that the audience needed to know.

App Research

App research

The idea for our app is basically an app created for youngsters who are interested in skateboarding, cycling
and so on, the app is like a site for all people interested in these sports to communicate and talk about new locations and certain areas good for the sports they like doing. The app can also introduce new people who haven't really done the sports before to see were and when people skate and so on. But also information on how to do certain tricks or were you can buy things in relation to your sport.

In the first lesson of planning i had to think about the cost of the app and how we would make a profit, i came up with the idea that if you rate certain places or even let the other users of the app know new places to skate you could unlock stages. However to make the profit. We have decided that if you, for example live in Berkshire for free you can search and find all the popular spots for your sport. However if you wanted to go out of the area and search were the best spots are in Surrey you would have to pay something along the lines on £1.29. This gives users access to search and find and popular and recommended places to go in the world.

Research i have done:

SPOTS – BMX I have researched what our app could actually look like and i thought this was a good one. As when you see it, straight away you can see what app is about.

I found a website through my research which can help our group to think about how we will decide the final price.
  • What is the value of this service?
  • Do competitors offer similar for less?
  • What is the opportunity cost of subscribing?
  • Is this the final amount I'll have to pay?
These questions will benefit our group as it will open our minds to think about other competors and if our app is actually going to sell and be of interest to anyone.
